Yoga Classes

The classical techniques of Yoga date back more than 5,000 years. In ancient times, the desire for greater personal freedom, health and long life, and heightened self-understanding gave birth to this system of physical and mental exercise which has since spread throughout the world. The word Yoga means "to unify," and it brings the body and mind together into one harmonious experience.

The whole system of Yoga is built on three main structures: Exercise, Breathing, and Meditation

The exercises of Yoga are designed to activate the glandular systems of the body, thus increasing their efficiency and total health. One can view the body as a vehicle that enables us to work and evolve in the world, and so a Yoga student treats the body with great care and respect.

The breathing techniques of Yoga are based on the concept that breath is the source of life in the body. The Yoga student gently controls the breath to improve the health and function of both body and mind.

The body and mind are prepared for Meditation as a result of exercise and breathing, and the student finds an easy approach to a quiet mind that allows silence and healing from everyday stress. Regular daily practice of all three parts of this structure of Yoga produce a clear, bright mind and a strong, capable body.

Chair Yoga is perhaps the gentlest form of yoga and offers many of the benefits of a traditional class such as increasing strength, deepening flexibility, breathing technique, balance and body awareness. It is practiced either sitting on a chair or using a chair for support. It is ideal for people who are aging, have health issues or disabilities that limit their ability to get down on the floor, or stand unassisted. Chair Yoga offers many benefits to expand both mental and physical fitness regardless of limitations. No experience is necessary for you to begin your transformation!

T'ai Chi Chuan is at once a martial art, a conditioning and health exercise, and a meditative practice. We begin by teaching the original Yang-style Long Form. This initially develops lower body strength and balance. With extensive practice come fluid grace, relaxation and the 'moving meditation' that is uniquely characteristic of Tai Chi.
